it will dead end the search bots when they're sent to the default server error page because there's no page links back... a very bad thing!

As you can see, the generic error page has ads taking YOUR visitors elsewhere & there are no backward links to your site's pages.

This page gives info to visitors about the error, is a little entertaining, provides a previous page button and has links to the rest of the site to choose from. It is visitor & search engine friendly.

The following instructions are the easiest way to do this... but you are free to be creative. Just be certain to TEST everything in both Internet Explorer & Firefox, at a minimum, to make sure they all work correctly!
(NOTE: You Must verify that you can create and modify .htaccess file on your host's server! Yahoo Web Hosting for instance DOES NOT allow that, so don't try this!)
You'll need 5 error pages:
"error400" with Title: "Error 400: Request Not Understood By Server"
"error401" with Title: "Error 401: Authorization Required"
"error403" with Title: "Error 403: Public Access Not Allowed"
"error404" with Title: "Error 404: Page Cannot Be Found"
"error500" with Title: "Error 500: Internal Server Error"
